“Do unto others as you would have others do unto others” – Jeree Pawl, former director of the Infant-Family Program, San Francisco General Hospital

 What is Reflective Practice?

Interest in reflective practice and supervisory support is growing as rapidly as interest in the social and emotional well being of babies, toddlers and preschool age children.  Whether trained as a mental health professional, a health professional, a social worker, an early childhood professional, or an administrator or policy maker influencing work with children birth to age five and their families, you will benefit from supportive consultation to help you better understand yourself in relationship to the very young children and families with whom you work. Reflective practice focuses on the development of relationships that support growth and development between supervisors and staff, staff and families, and parents and children. It is within these relationships that learning and change is able to take place. It is more a way of being than a way of doing. (Zero to Three)

At the present time, reflective supervision groups are beginning to develop across the state to support providers of services to infants and young children and their families.  If you are interested in finding out if a group is currently meeting in your area, please contact Stacey Leakey at (918) 599-7999. For more information on Reflective Supervision as a part of OK-AIMH’s Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Infant Mental Health, see:
