OK-AIMH History
  • Founded November 1991

  • Over 300 members with multi-disciplinary representation

Objectives

  • To encourage the realization that infancy is a critical period in the psychosocial development of the individual

  • To increase the sophistication of its' members

  • To promote the optimal development and wellness of the child and family through prevention, identification, treatment and support so that they may realize their maximum potential

  • To engage in activities that encourage cooperation and collaboration with other groups, agencies and individuals that serve children and families within Oklahoma and its neighboring states.

Other Information

  • Historically, primary focus has been on the first two objectives through information sharing and education

  • Sponsors an annual conference featuring speakers of national significance

  • Past speakers include Alicia Lieberman, Charles Zeanah, Michael Trout, Janet Dean, Joy Osofsky & Mary Claire Heffron

  • Sponsors the Povl Toussieng Award for Leadership in Infant Mental Health

  • Past recipients include Linda Passmark, Karen Irey, Martha Holmes, Vimila Sekar, Fran Morris, Eva Carter & Jan Culbertson

  • Sponsors 1-2 membership meetings per year featuring local speakers and CEU's

  • 2-4 newsletters each year

  • As OK-AIMH has continued to grow, we've broadened our focus to include all of the original objectives
